The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) has announced the best player in the South American zone in 2021.
Lionel Messi, a member of the Argentine national team who played for the French club PSG, was awarded the title, according to the official website of the IFFHS.
The 34-year-old player was also named the best playmaker. Lionel Scaloni of Argentina was named the best head coach of the national team, and Renato Gaucho of Flamengo of Brazil was named the best head coach of the club.
Messi’s teammate Emiliano Martines, who plays for Aston Villa in England, has been named the best goalkeeper. Venezuela’s Jesus Valenzuela was named the best referee, while Brazil’s Rodrigo, who plays for Spanish club Real Madrid, was named the best young player.
Lionel Messi was awarded the Golden Ball by France Football on November 29 for the seventh time in his career.
