“The information we received from the UN official in Yemen, Hans Grundberg, shows that the situation in the country is very deplorable.”
The statement came from UN Secretary-General’s Spokesman Stefan Dujarric, according to the local bureau of the Report.
He said that although the parties to the conflict in Yemen have stated their desire for peace, their focus remains on military options.
“The intensification of the fighting and the change of front lines are endangering the lives of civilians. Last week alone, there were about 50 clashes between the parties,” the spokesman said.
Dujarric said that although the United Nations provides humanitarian assistance to about 11 million people a month in areas of intense fighting, including Marib, Hudaydah and Taiz, the current situation is hampering the delivery of aid to the region.
