Mehman Aliyev, the head of the Turan news agency, who was the most critical of the draft law on the media, which was submitted to the Milli Majlis, did not want to justify his position in an open debate on television.
This was announced during a joint extended online meeting of the Parliamentary Committees on Human Rights and Legal Policy and State Building.
Ahmad Ismayilov, Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, said that he was ready for open discussions with all stakeholders on the project. However, the opposition is reluctant to substantiate its remarks in an open debate: “We participated in various debates during the discussion of this bill. Yesterday we received such an invitation from the Public Television and agreed to take part in an open discussion with Mehman Aliyev. But later it became clear that Mehman was not in favor of discussing the issue in such debates. “
It should be noted that M. Aliyev explains his refusal to debate by “lack of a general strategy for the bill.”
