The “omicron” strain of the coronavirus has so far been detected in 89 countries.
The report was released by the World Health Organization (WHO).
It is noted that the omicron strain is significantly superior to the delta variant of the coronavirus in terms of growth and spread. According to the agency, the number of infected people doubles in 1.5-3 days.
The omicron strain is also prevalent in countries with high levels of immunity.
The WHO believes that the omicron will outperform the delta strain in areas where intra-community transmission of the coronavirus occurs.
As for the severity of the disease during infection with Omicron, the data are still limited. More information is needed to clarify this issue, as well as the impact of vaccines and immunity on disease severity.
