The European Commission (EC) has agreed with BioNtech and Pfizer to speed up the delivery of mRNA-based vaccines to EU member states in the coming weeks.
In the first quarter of 2022, Pfizer-BioNtech will supply an additional 20 million doses of vaccine (5 million in January, 5 million in February and 10 million in March – Red).
This is in addition to the 195 million doses already planned by Pfizer-BioNtech. As a result, 215 million doses of vaccine will be delivered to Western countries in the first quarter.
On December 16, the European Commission also agreed with Moderna to deliver additional vaccines in the first quarter of 2022. The agency notes that this will be especially useful for member states in urgent need of a Buster dose.
