Former Greek President Karolos Papoulias has died at the age of 92.

A well-known Greek politician, Papoulias was President of the country from 2005 to 2015, a prominent representative of the All-Greek Socialist Movement Party, and Minister of Foreign Affairs (1985-1989 and 1993-1996).
He was born on June 4, 1929, in the city of Yannina in northwestern Greece. As a teenager, he participated in the resistance movement during World War II.
Papoulias was a lawyer by profession. After graduating from the Faculty of Law at the University of Athens, he continued his education at the University of Milan, specializing in private international law and defended his doctoral dissertation at the University of Cologne. In 1963-1981 he was engaged in advocacy.
Papoulias was also an active participant in the struggle against the fascist junta of “black colonels” in Greece (1967-1974).
