Azerbaijan is in the top three countries visited by Russian tourists for the New Year holidays.
This was reported by the travel planning service Ozon Travel, citing Russian media.
It is noted that the most popular foreign destinations among the service’s customers over the past year were Turkey – Istanbul, Antalya and the UAE – Dubai, as well as CIS countries. This also applies to the trend for the New Year holidays in 2022. Thus, most foreign travel routes are to Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Despite the general decline in demand in the travel agencies segment due to the coronavirus pandemic, travelers are gradually returning to the pre-pandemic pace. Ozone Travel added that the demand for travel within Russia is already approaching the level of 2019, and four times more Russians flew abroad for the current holiday than in the same period in 2021.
According to a study by Russian tour operators, during the New Year holidays in 2022, some Russian tourists prefer to travel within the country. For example, Moscow and St. Petersburg were the leaders in the category of the most popular destinations in January. Among the foreign routes, the CIS countries are the most interesting.
