In the playoffs of the UEFA Conference League, the French club Marseille, a rival of Karabakh, won an away victory over Bordeaux after 44 years.
According to Report, this happened in the 20th round match in Ligue 1. In the 37th minute, Bordeaux goalkeeper Pau Lopez misplaced the ball, which was captured by Turkish national team player Cengiz Under, who scored the only goal of the match – 1: 0.
Thus, for the first time since October 1977, Marseille ended Bordeaux’s 36-match unbeaten streak at home. Thanks to this victory, “Marseille” rose to second place with 36 points, reducing the lead to 10 points with PSG. Bordeaux is in 17th place with 17 points.
The victory was achieved against the background of coronavirus infection of 17 members of the home team. Although Bordeaux asked for the match to be postponed, the French Professional Football League (LFP) refused. The Girondists had to hold the meeting in front of closed stands due to the mass nature of the infections. The team’s fans protested against the decision of the LFP.
It should be noted that Karabakh will play its first match against Marseille on February 17 away and the return match on February 24 at home.
